VERY IMPORTANT TO HIGHLIGHT

All shipping, logistics, compliance and importation costs associated with the submission of entries to the International Rum Conference (I.R.C) – Rum Tasting Competition will be the sole responsibility of the brand owner/participant. Thus, there may be additional cost associated with delivering the good if entries aren’t registered to sell in the USA.

International Rum Conference 2019 – Rum Tasting Competition will accept entries until August 31, 2019. This includes registration on-line and reception of physical entries. Unfortunately, any and all physical entries received after September, 15, 2019 will not be included in the judging and awarding process.

COMPETITION RULES

Organization

Since 2012, The International Rum Conference – Rum Tasting Competition, has selected and awarded annually the best sugar cane based products from around the world. This competition is organized by the International Rum Conference LLC based in Coral Gables, Florida.

Competition Objectives
  • Promote and increase the awareness of sugar cane based (Rum) products around the world.
  • Increase awareness of the Rum production process amongst trade and consumers.
  • Assist consumers and trade in how to distinguish and enjoy the best rums from around the world.
  • Showcase and highlight “Best in Class” companies and brands in the Rum industry.
Participants

International Rum Conference – Rum Tasting Competition participants can be any Rum brand(s) that completes the on-line registration process and confirms and verifies that the alcohol base of product being submitted is manufactured of 100% sugar cane.

Conditions
  • All rum entries labelling must comply with the Rum Tasting Competition – General Bases and Regulations.
  • All rum entries labelling must comply with current country of origin manufacturing laws.
  • All rum entries product and labelling must comply with USA importation regulation.
Registration
  • Confirm registration by completing the on-line registration.
  • The registration process must be completed for each product/entry (not corporately).
  • All entries must present 2 bottles for the judges to evaluate.
  • Entries will be accepted and included in the competition if registration is completed and samples are physically received before September 15, 2019.
Selection of Judging Panel
  • The Rum Competition General Director, Mr. Javier Herrera will select the judging panel.
  • The mission of the General Director is to insure the integrity of the competition.
    • Guaranteeing that presentations of samples and products are held anonymously.
    • Approves the opening of the second bottle if it were to be necessary.
    • Secretly documents the scoring and feedback from judges.
General Rum Tasting specifications
  • International Rum Conference – Rum Tasting Competition is conducted with the primary principal of absolute anonymity. To respect the principal of confidentiality the judges will not be made aware the actual rums they are sampling and evaluating (Rum name, origin, retail selling price or scores awarded).
  • The International Rum Conference – Rum Competition evaluation process will take place in September 2019 and the General Director will select the appropriate location for the judges to evaluate the entries. 
  • The rum tasting and evaluation will be hosted in a private and remote location with excellent illumination and ventilation. Only International Rum Conference – Rum Tasting management team with the approval the General Director can access to the judge’s evaluation room.
  • There is a secondary staging room that is off limits to the judges, which is used to prepare the samples and insure that nobody has any knowledge of the rum they are tasting and evaluating.
  • All rums are blindly and carefully evaluated by our panel of judges and scored in the following areas:
    • Visual impressions
    • Olfactory impressions
    • Impressions on taste
    • Overall general impressions
Award Conditions
  • The competition will be recognizing the following distinctions: Double Gold, Gold, Silver and Bronze medals as well as diplomas.
  • The winners and metal recipients have the right to use Competition name – “International Rum Conference – Rum Tasting” to communicate to trade and consumer exclusively in relations to the awards themselves.
  • The medals can only be used and referenced in conjunction with the year it was awarded. If for whatever reason these regulations are not respected, the organizer will be within its right to disqualified and pursued to the fullest extent of the law.
Force Mejeure

All entries, exhibitors and participants in the International Rum Conference and – Rum Competition will not hold liable the organizer or the event itself in the eventuality of an independent or involuntary force beyond its control were to impede the effective execution of the International Rum Conference – Rum Tasting Competition and/or The International Rum Conference overall. The International Rum Conferences reserves the right to cancel the event, modify the dates (cut short or prolong) and/or modify conditions in the case of a Force Majeure (Fire, hurricane, flooding, natural catastrophes, strike, terrorist acts, etc…). Entries, exhibitors and/or participants cannot hold the organizer responsible for any reimbursement or compensation.

Controls
  • The International Rum Competition reserves the unilateral right to cancel any incomplete or erroneous entry. It also reserves the right to disqualify any entry that does comply with the International Rum Conference – Rum Tasting Competition Guidelines. In case it where necessary and if there are any doubts regarding the chemical composition of an entry, the organizer reserves the right to conduct a chemical analysis to validate specifications of a given entry.
  • The organizer will hold the bottles received for the International Rum Conference – Rum Tasting competition for a period of one year and will not return them to the company that entered them. After a year has passed, it is the sole discretion of the event organizer to define how it will dispose if the bottles. It is understood that the organizer will not and cannot commercially sell these products.
  • Any breach of the International Rum Conference – Rum Tasting Competition Guidelines may result in a disqualification, suspension or elimination from participating in future Competitions. This will be defined and is at the sole discretion of the General Director of the International Rum Conference – Rum Tasting Competition. All communications regarding any breach and respective sanctions will be communicated via email info@internationalrumconference.com
Participation

Once a given entry has been submitted and paid, it is understood that the participant has read, understood and accepted the International Rum Conference – Rum Tasting Competition Guidelines. That said, once registered the organizer will not reimburse the registration fee and/or expenses incurred in sending samples or presenting paperwork.

Rules
  • The Rum Tasting Competition is open to all rum and sugar cane based brands from all countries around the world.
  • There is no limit to how many rums can be entered into the competition by the same company, but each rum must be registered separately.
  • Each registration form must be completed on-line by an authorized representative of the brand, guaranteeing that the rum was produced only from fermented sugarcane juice or its derivatives. Products made from beet molasses, sorghum or corn syrup will not be allowed in this competition.
  • The same rum will not be allowed in two or more different categories.
  • Rums must be commercially available: rums submitted with labels lacking a commercial barcode and/or distributor or importer information will not be allowed. The organizers reserve the right to test the rums submitted against those available through liquor stores.
REGISTRATION AND SHIPMENT OF SAMPLES

All brands/variants interested in participating in the International Rum Conference 2019 – Rum Tasting Competition must register on-line (no exceptions): www.Internationalrumconference.com . Once on-line registration is completed and approved, all participants must comply with all the rules, regulations and guidelines of the Rum Tasting Competition in order to be included in the judging and awarding process.
The registration fee is USD$100 per reference/entry. All shipping costs for the bottles remain the sole responsibility of the participating companies. The deadlines for receiving rums for the competition are:

  • Registration fee for entries physically received before september 15, 2019 is USD $100 / entry.
  • Complete registration process, including physical reception and payment must be complete prior to the September 15, 2019 deadline. If not the entries will be disqualified.
  • No entries will be accepted after September 15, 2019.

It is required to send two (2) bottles of each entry. The product needs to be registered to sell in the USA. Companies that do not send the requested number of bottles will be automatically removed from the competition. Shipments of USA registered entries that originate from within the USA can be sent to:

For entries that are NOT registered to be sold in the USA and/or originate outside the USA, there is a registration and compliance process that needs to be completed in order for the merchandise to reach us. The International Rum Conference has contracted the services of the Parkstreet Companies to assist brands that are not registered in the USA handle the registration, compliance and importation process.

IMPORTANT

  1.  To avoid customs and transportation problems and additional cost, all rum brands NOT registered to sell in the United States of America must contact the event organizers PRIOR to sending their products. Please send an email to info@internationalrumconference.com for additional instructions.
  2. The organizers will not be responsible for any expenses related to the shipment of products, including registrations, import duties, brokerage or any other related charges. All expenses related to the shipment of the rums to the competition remain the sole responsibility of the shipper.

The organizer will be recognizing winners and presenting awards in the categories outlined below. It is the responsibility of each company to indicate the correct category for each entry. The category indicated in the on-line process needs to be consistent with the information contained on the labels and/or promotional information for each rum. The basic categories for the competition are as follows:

Awards

Members of the judging panel will sample all the rums blindly, arranged by fleets based on classification and category. The scores will be collected and tabulated by a registered independent notary public who will certify the scores and the judging process. Double Gold, Gold, Silver and Bronze medals will be awarded to the rums that score the highest point total in each category. The rum with the highest score in each category will also receive a “Best in Category” award and the overall highest score across categories will receive a “Best in Show” award.

The judging panel will also be handing awards for packaging – These include awards for:

  1. Best Enclosure (cork or cap).
  2. Best Bottle.
  3. Best Label.
  4. Best Overall Packaging presentation.

The list of winners will annouced at the International Rum Conference 2019 – Industry Enrichment Seminars on September 26, 2019. After the announcments we will post on our website. Diplomas will be sent via email and you will have the ability to download virtual metals for your records.

What is the registration deadline?

All registrations that have completed the online registration and physically received the bottles before August 31, 2019 will be accepted.

How many rums can I present?

There is not limit. But each rum must be registered separately and the same rum can not be presented in two different categories.

How are the rums rated?

The rums are evaluated according to the following impressions:

  • Visuals
  • Olfactory
  • Taste
  • General
What are the distinctions?
  • Double Gold
  • Gold
  • Silver
  • Bronze
  • Diplomas

The judging panel also awards prizes for packaging.

  • Best Enclosure (cork or cap)
  • Best Bottle.
  • Mejor Label.
  • Best Overall Packaging presentation.
